Miami City Ballet Company Virtual Open House

The Miami City Ballet family are delighted to invite young artists of color, their families and teachers to our first Virtual Open House events. Take class, meet company dancers, enjoy a virtual tour of the MCB studios and more.

Virtual Open House events are free online, interactive experiences designed to welcome and create access for young artists of color to visit behind-the-scenes of Miami City Ballet, one of America’s premiere ballet companies, and Miami City Ballet School, one of America’s leading dance training institutions.

ScreenDance Miami 2021: Uprooted Presented by Miami Light Project

ScreenDance Miami Festival 2021 highlights choreographers and directors who are working with emerging and new concepts in movement and dance on film and dance on camera. Join us out of doors for ScreenDance Miami’s Open Call Selections and the feature film, "Uprooted"! "Uprooted", directed by Khalifa Wong, free of any artificial narrative, is a cinematic exploration of this art form, paying homage to its lineage, celebrating its many re-interpretations and through a fast- moving kaleidoscope of movement and music will inspire the dancer of tomorrow to keep this art form alive.

The Heritage Project: Black Greek Step & Marching Band Traditions Presented by the Arsht Center

The Heritage Project artistic salon series continues with Black Greek Step & Marching Band Traditions.

This salon will discuss the history of Black Greek organizations, the long-standing tradition of Black step shows and marching bands in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and in Black American culture as a whole.

The Nutcracker Presented by Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida (in-person event)

Snowflakes, sugarplums, naughty little boys, and magical dolls! The charm of the Holidays fascinates all audiences, as Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida presents the classic ballet “The Nutcracker” to Tchaikovsky’s popular score based on the tale of Ernest Hoffman. The critically acclaimed performance, choreographed and directed by renowned Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev. 

This enthusiastic ballet company features its team of professional dancers performing the principal roles, as well as a community cast made up of local character artists and children for the party scene. 

Miami Light Project Presents Here & Now: 2020

See Miami Light Project’s signature commission program for Miami-based artists – Here & Now! Filmed and presented virtually for the first time, the program features newly commissioned short work from Miami’s freshest and most exciting emerging artists, who are working across disciplines to define contemporary performance in Miami.

 

Maya Billig – Brink
Brink is a contemporary dance work inspired by Orson Welles’s radio broadcast of “War of the Worlds” from 1938.

Virtual Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler 2020 Presented by Dance Now! Miami

Safely showcasing a curated group of ten companies and choreographers in this COVID-19 moment, this 10th anniversary Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler evening will feature specially created "dance on film" segments and recorded concert footage. The showcase of short works and excerpts will be one "performance" only viewable online on Friday, October 23 at 7:00 pm. The work ranges from a flamenco interpretation of an Ibsen play to a dance video shot among the mangroves of the Florida coast to quarantine-inspired works. In addition to performances, the streamed show will feature interviews with the choreographers and directors, moderated by Cameron Basden from Miami Dance Hub. The program will last about one hour. Participating groups include: Arts Ballet Theater, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Dance NOW! Miami, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, Karen Peterson and Dancers, Kyra Jean Green, Momentum Dance Company, New World Dance Ensemble, Sandra Portal Andreu and Pioneer Winter Collective.
