Continuing with the 25th Anniversary Celebration, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is bringing back the fun and beloved colorful ballet Chipollino, under the artistic direction of Ballet Master, Choreographer, and Director Vladimir Issaev.
Originally based on a fairy tale by Italian author Gianni Rodari, Chipollino is a two-act story ballet choreographed to the music of Karen Khachaturian, an acclaimed 20th-century century Russian composer.
The story tells the adventures of a group of fruits and vegetables living in The Town of Limonia, under the reign of Prince Lemon.
When Prince Lemon refrains Mrs. Pumpkin and her children to build a house and announces new laws imposing taxes to the sun, the air and the rain, Chipollino reacts by stomping on the foot of Prince Lemon and the whole town gets involved in a new quest.
This ballet not only entertains everyone in the audience with its different elements, but it also presents sort of a political statement. All the wonderful personalities of this story, which include Ms. Cherry, Tomato Police, Lettuces, Radishes, Apples, Strawberries, and Flowers, show off their amazing classical ballet skills in this demanding and fun choreography. This is what makes the audience want to return to see this production every time the company brings it back.
