Joe Jackson brings his Four Decade Tour to the Olympia Theater on May 24. Following the 2015 release of the critically acclaimed Fast Forward, legendary songwriter Joe Jackson has announced the release of his new studio album Fool. The record, which is the 20th studio album of Jackson’s career, was the fulfillment of a career-long dream: to finish a tour and head straight into the studio with the band firing on all cylinders. So, on July 29th, Joe wrapped up his 2018 summer tour at The Eqyptian Theater in Boise, Idaho – and the following day set up shop at Tonic Room Studios in town. When asked to reflect on the recording Jackson had this to offer: “When it looked like I'd be recording in late July and mixing around my birthday, in August, it struck me that the only other occasion that had happened was while making my first album. It still took a while for it to sink in: this would be 40 years on… The road to this album is littered with the wrecks of songs and half-songs that didn't make the grade. There are eight survivors, which I think is enough. How significant the resurgence of vinyl is, I'm not sure, but I did think of this as an album, with two complementary sides of about 20 minutes each… In his own words: “So, here comes a big tour. We want to celebrate the fact that this is happening after 40 years – anything else, would be like sulking in a room by yourself on your own birthday party. Looking for some way to organize a show out of 40 years' worth of material, I decided to draw on five albums, each representing a decade: Look Sharp (1979) Night And Day (1982) Laughter And Lust(1991) Rain (2008) and Fool (2019). We'll also throw in a couple of songs from other albums and some new covers. I can't wait. Viral sensation Postmodern Jukebox originally blew up online with videos that showcased the group’s trademark vintage twist on modern pop hits. Since then, this traveling band of throwback minstrels has brought their unique spin on pop favorites to sold-out shows around the world. Drawing on a setlist that can include anything from Guns N’ Roses to Beyoncé, the rotating cast of musicians and singers renders modern music in fashions that date back to a time of street corner harmonies and torch singers, blues belters and golden-voiced crooners. In Howells’ 20th Century anthem, Like as the Hart Desireth the Waterbrooks, distress is expressed for war wreaking havoc on nature’s purity. In continental Europe, sacrifice is invoked in both Mozarts’ 18th Century chant, Ave Verum Corpus and in Aquinas’s 14th Century hymn, O Salutaris Hostia. These pieces both announce eternal joy in heaven & the start of summer on earth, when, at the feast of Corpus Christi, Vivaldi’s Gloria is also sung. After a five-piece musical journey of repentance, you will indulge in the happy pronouncement of Gloria. Chrysos (ages 9-12) presents a musical theater variety show that will encourage and delight audiences of all ages. Nuggets of GOLD (ages 6-9) will present their musical fun: "Journey." GOLD in Harmony (a teen girls' show choir) and the Vessels Vault (a teen video performance group) will present some highlights of their work this year.

All G.O.L.D. groups rehearse at Talents Unleashed studio in Kendall. This show is presented free to the community thanks to the generosity of the Redland Church of the Nazarene.

Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s colorful score is a perfect match for the passionate art of the legendary painter Frida Kahlo. Although the artist was wracked by agonizing physical pain and caught up in a stormy marriage to Diego Rivera, the flame that fueled Kahlo’s art just kept burning and never turned to ash. She created fifty-five self-portraits. But no portrait of her is quite as revealing as the one in Rodríguez’s opera.
