Jean-Luc Godard's "Band of Outsiders" Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

In a dreary Paris suburb, Franz (Sami Frey) and Arthur (Claude Brasseur) don’t have money, jobs, or prospects, but they do have a black convertible and a shared romantic interest in Odile (Anna Karina). When Odile lets slip that a stash of cash is ineptly hidden in the isolated villa where she lives, the men hatch a plan to take it for themselves. Piece of cake, but then... A jeu d’esprit, with Godardian set pieces including the trio line-dancing “Le Madison” (later appropriated by Quentin Tarantino for Pulp Fiction) and then “doing” the Louvre in record time.

Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless" Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

Small-time crook Michel (Jean-Paul Belmondo) steals a car and murders a policeman. While on the run, he reconnects with Patricia (Jean Seberg), a journalism student living in Paris, and tries to convince her to escape with him to Italy. And so, the groundwork is laid for one of the most influential films in cinema history, oft-imitated but never replicated. "Breathless", an early example of the hip French New Wave, is a non-stop thrill featuring star turns by Seberg and Belmondo, strikingly sharp black-and-white photography from lauded cinematographer Raoul Coutard, and then-revolutionary jump-cutting. Director Jean-Luc Godard melds it all together to form one of the absolute coolest films ever made.

The Talented Mr. Ripley Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

Starring Matt Damon as a manipulative sociopath who'll do anything to protect his secrets and Jude Law as the young socialite who becomes the object of his obsession, this tense and intelligent thriller didn't make quite as much of a splash as Anthony Minghella's previous film, the Academy Award juggernaut "The English Patient", but it still thrilled audiences and critics alike and went on to garner nominations for its suspenseful screenplay, its haunting original score, and Jude Law's performance.

Sunset Boulevard Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

Gloria Swanson is Norma Desmond, an aging silent film queen, and William Holden is Joe Gillis, the struggling writer who is held in thrall to her madness. Together, Swanson and Gillis delivered two of the silver screen's most memorable performances in this riveting Hollywood melodrama. Solidifying his status as one of America's best filmmakers, Billy Wilder weaves a bizarre and lurid tale of desperation into a cinematic classic. From the unforgettable opening sequence to the inevitable unfolding of its protagonists' tragic destinies, it's easy to see why Sunset Boulevard is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. It's the definitive statement on the dark side of fame, often imitated but never duplicated.

National Theatre Live's Straight Line Crazy Presented by Coral Gables Art Cinema

For forty uninterrupted years, Robert Moses exploited those in office through a mix of charm and intimidation. Motivated at first by a determination to improve the lives of New York City’s workers, he created parks, bridges and 627 miles of expressway to connect the people to the great outdoors. Faced with resistance by protest groups campaigning for a very different idea of what the city should become, will the weakness of democracy be exposed in the face of his charismatic conviction? Ralph Fiennes stars as Moses in this stage production presented by National Theatre Live and filmed at London's Bridge Theatre.
