Koubek Center presents the world premiere of TWO ISLANDS, a musical and dance performance by Afro-Cuban artists from Miami and Aboriginal artists from Australia.
Two Islands is an international cultural exchange residency featuring Afro-Cuban artists from Miami and Aboriginal artists from Australia who will explore how these two different cultural traditions, in their ceremonies and rituals, speak to their ancestors through a musical and dance performance.
Featuring Miami-based Afro-Cuban musician and educator Michael Gil, and NT Dance Company Artistic Director and Choreographer Gary Lang from Larrakia nation, elder Banula Marika from Yolngu and singer songwriter David Spry from Marranunggu Marrathiyel.
Afro-Cuban musician and educator Michael Gil will be working with the First Nation artists along with Afro-Cuban dancer and choreographer Marisol Blanco from Sikan Afro-Cuban Dance Project and musicians Manuel Clua, René Pedroso, and Caridad Paisán, and dancer Suramy Suarez.
This collaboration will fuse rhythms and instruments to create new sounds, stories, and choreography rarely explored.
