The Heritage Project: Black Greek Step & Marching Band Traditions Presented by the Arsht Center

The Heritage Project artistic salon series continues with Black Greek Step & Marching Band Traditions.

This salon will discuss the history of Black Greek organizations, the long-standing tradition of Black step shows and marching bands in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and in Black American culture as a whole.

We will delve into the African roots of “step” as a dance form and the competitive showmanship of HBCU halftime marching band performances. We will discover how these treasures are woven into the fabric of Black American culture.

This discussion will capture the spirit of a Harlem Renaissance salon, where Black leaders, intellectuals, activists, artists, educators and business owners would come together to discuss matters impacting the Black community.

Panelists to be announced. Closed captioning will be provided.
