Haitian Heritage Celebration Presented by City of North Miami Beach and Commissioner Barbara Kramer

In honor of Haitian Heritage Month, the City of North Miami Beach and Multicultural Committee liaison Commissioner Barbara Kramer are hosting its Haitian Heritage Celebration on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

This free event features performances by Tradisyon Lakou Lakay, Patrick Dorce & Rara Roots Rock, Empress Addi and Rara Lakay.

At 5 p.m. there will be a Marketplace Timache and at 7:30 p.m. we will honor Judge Lody Jean.

Free Haitian cuisine sampling all night. Join us as we celebrate the rich culture and heritage of Haiti.

"An Operetta Fantasy", a musical gala honoring the operetta with performers, dancers and The Florida Chamber Orchestra conducted by Marlene Urbay. Witness how our favorite characters from "The Merry Widow", "The Count of Luxemburg", "Die Fledermaus", and "The Duchess of Bal Tabarin" all come to life during a glorious party and where even the audience joins the fantasy as the curtain rises. Voices of Heritage: This Is Our Time! Presented by African Heritage Cultural Arts Center

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) presents “This Is Our Time,” a concert performed by its Voices of Heritage vocal ensemble, with featured dance performances by the Winds of Heritage in-house dance company. The two acclaimed AHCAC apprenticeship programs will perform on Sat, May 18, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts at Florida Memorial University, 4470 NW 159 St, in Miami Gardens. Tickets are $20 in advance at ThisIsOurTime.Eventbrite.com or $25 at the door. “This is Our Time” celebrates the rich history of the African Diaspora while providing apprenticeship participants an opportunity to tell their story through music and dance. This year, Voices of Heritage (VOH) will debut an original composition entitled “What We Need,” written in conjunction with students from the Center’s Summer Arts Conservatory. The concert will include performances of “Mama Will Provide” from the Tony Award-winning musical, Once on this Island, Generation Mashup, “Elijah Rock,” “The Doxology” and more. The Winds of Heritage Dance (WOH) will present choreography by Ashley Clark, WOH Artistic Director; Sharon Walker, AHCAC Dance Instructor; and Florencia Guerrier, Norland Middle School Dance Instructor. The concert will also feature guest artist, The Gospel Vintage Choir directed by Tim Littlejohn. The apprenticeship programs at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center provide student artists who are passionate about their craft the opportunity to grow and develop their skills. Young artists who have completed at least one year of study are invited to audition for the programs.

Crumb's Cosmos 2 Presented by Kaleidoscope MusArt

Kaleidoscope MusArt presents the complete cycle of MAKROKOSMOS by George Crumb. The two concerts on April 28 and April 30 will bring the first performance of the entire set since its premiere in 1980. A pioneer of new sounds and timbres, Crumb uncovers unexplored dimensions of creative expression in his music while building upon centuries of tradition and excellence. Crumb's Cosmos, a series of events dedicated to honoring this great American master, is one of the two largest such celebrations happening nationwide in 2019.
