Miami Symphony Orchestra Maria João Pires, piano Eduardo Marturet, conductor Program: WHITACRE Equus MOZART Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488 TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 6, "Pathétique" Celebrated pianist Maria João Pires joins Eduardo Marturet and the Miami Symphony Orchestra to perform one of the most iconic works in piano literature, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's “Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488.” Alongside this masterpiece, the orchestra visits contemporary composer Eric Whitacre and his compelling piece “Equus.” The final sounds of the concert come from the emotional and autobiographical “Symphony No. 6, ‘Pathétique’ " by Piotr I. Tchaikovsky.

Miami Symphony Orchestra Rodner Padilla, electric bass Yoonie Han, piano Eduardo Marturet, conductor Program: ADAMS Short Ride in a Fast Machine PADILLA Concerto for Electric Bass and Orchestra (world premiere) a 22/23 MISO commission LEFRAK Piano Concerto (world premiere) a 22/23 MISO commission BRAHMS Symphony No. 4 in E minor, op. 98 John Adams’ “Short Ride in a Fast Machine” sets the atmosphere for two world premieres commissioned by the Miami Symphony Orchestra. Rodner Padilla's “Concerto for Electric Bass and Orchestra” fills the hall with an exotic blend of tradition and modernity. Then, the beautiful melodic lines of Karen LeFrak's “Piano Concerto” close the first half. The concert concludes with the fascinating musical discourse of the all-time favorite “Symphony No. 4” by Johannes Brahms.

FUNDarte and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium present the 8th annual ZunZún Children's Fest for families and young audiences - featuring an array of bilingual musical and theatrical projects by local artists that encourages appreciation for the culture and values of "Hispanidad". Enjoy this commemoration of culture and heritage from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world's Latin musical legacies - all of which celebrate childhood and bring joy to the whole family.

RUCKUS (with featured soloist, Emi Ferguson) Presented by RK Cultural Productions

Ruckus’ core is a continuo group, the baroque equivalent of a jazz rhythm section: guitars, keyboards, cello, bassoon and bass. Other members include soloists of the violin, flute and oboe. The ensemble aims to fuse the early-music movement’s questing, creative spirit with the grit, groove and jangle of American roots music, creating a unique sound of “rough-edged intensity” (New Yorker). Its members are assembled from among the most creative and virtuosic performers in North American early music, and is based in New York City. Ruckus’ debut album, Fly the Coop, a collaboration with flutist Emi Ferguson, was Billboard’s #2 Classical album upon its release. Live performances of Fly the Coop in Cambridge, MA was described as “a fizzing, daring display of personality and imagination” (New York Times).

Discover Miami Through Music at the Miami Woman's Club: The Music of Mana-Zucca Presented by Orchestra Miami

Orchestra Miami celebrates the legacy of Mana-Zucca, a legend in Miami’s music circles and a pioneering composer at the Miami Woman's Club. Prior to moving to Miami, Mana-Zucca was a celebrated concert pianist and singer who performed leading roles in musical comedies. After her move to Miami, she became a prolific composer, composing over 400 works, and holding weekly musicales in her home "Mazica Hall”. She was also the teacher of concert pianist and pioneer Ruth Greenfield, whom we will honor at the concert. The Miami Woman’s Club was founded in 1900 as the "Married Ladies' Afternoon Club" just four years after Miami was incorporated. Their current newly renovated home was designed in 1925 by August Geiger, one of the most prominent American architects in South Florida at the time, and had its grand opening in 1926 as the Flagler Memorial Library and Women’s Club. The organization provided library services for the city and worked toward the establishment of a municipal library system. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The program includes many under-performed gems, including the Tocccata for Vioin & Piano, Sonata for Cello & Piano, Op. 223, Hakinoh for Violin & Piano, Op. 186, Ballade et Caprice for Cello & Piano, Op. 28, Fisherman's Wharf for Violin & Piano, Op 228, Trio for Violin, Cello & Piano, Op.40, Rachem for Voice & Piano and her most famous composition, I Love Life, which was widely recorded. The performers include Orchestra Miami principal Cellist Aaron Merritt, Principal 2nd Violinist Karen Lord-Powell and Orchestra Miami's Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi on the piano. Tickets are priced at just $25 General Admission for Adults, $20 for Seniors over 65 and $5 for Students with ID.
