Voices of Heritage: This Is Our Time! Presented by African Heritage Cultural Arts Center

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) presents “This Is Our Time,” a concert performed by its Voices of Heritage vocal ensemble, with featured dance performances by the Winds of Heritage in-house dance company. The two acclaimed AHCAC apprenticeship programs will perform on Sat, May 18, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts at Florida Memorial University, 4470 NW 159 St, in Miami Gardens.

“This is Our Time” celebrates the rich history of the African Diaspora while providing apprenticeship participants an opportunity to tell their story through music and dance. This year, Voices of Heritage (VOH) will debut an original composition entitled “What We Need,” written in conjunction with students from the Center’s Summer Arts Conservatory. The concert will include performances of “Mama Will Provide” from the Tony Award-winning musical, Once on this Island, Generation Mashup, “Elijah Rock,” “The Doxology” and more.

The Winds of Heritage Dance (WOH) will present choreography by Ashley Clark, WOH Artistic Director; Sharon Walker, AHCAC Dance Instructor; and Florencia Guerrier, Norland Middle School Dance Instructor. The concert will also feature guest artist, The Gospel Vintage Choir directed by Tim Littlejohn.

The apprenticeship programs at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center provide student artists who are passionate about their craft the opportunity to grow and develop their skills. Young artists who have completed at least one year of study are invited to audition for the programs.

Regular priced tickets are $20 in advance at ThisIsOurTime.Eventbrite.com or $25 at the door.
