George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker ® at the Adrienne Arsht Center December 16-26
BALANCHINE / TCHAIKOVSKY
Miami City Ballet’s unique production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® is the most “magnificent, dazzling” way to celebrate the festive season with your loved ones (Broadway World).
At a cozy Christmas eve party, a brave little girl called Marie receives a mysterious gift. When the clock strikes twelve, a magic spell awakens and we follow Marie into a dream inhabited by toy soldiers and a defiant Mouse King. With the dashing Nutcracker as our guide, discover a sparkling forest of dancing Snowflakes, befriend the Sugarplum Fairy, whimsical waltzing flowers and a host of colorful characters in the Land of Sweets.
As a live orchestra plays Tchaikovsky’s iconic melodies, more than 100 dancers bring this fantastical story to life, surrounded by sherbet-hued designs by Cuban-American artists Ruben and the late Isabel Toledo and breathtaking stage effects by Wendall K. Harrington.
Rediscover the joys of this delightful tradition and let this “endlessly fanciful and colorful” adventure ignite your imagination. (Wall Street Journal)
“Elaborate, beloved… it’s time to see it again.” Los Angeles Times
