About the Artist:
Born in 1974, Anabel Ruiz hails from La Habana, Cuba. At age 9, she moved to Spain where her father arranged a scholarship for her at a private Catholic school, sparking her love for art. At 14, her family relocated to Miami, like many other Cuban exiles. Despite her passion for art, she studied Business Administration in college, leaving her feeling unfulfilled. In a surprising twist, she decided to become a nun and served in two different congregations in Miami and Fatima, Portugal, over eight years. During this time, she created numerous artworks anonymously.
However, in 2011, after some soul-searching, she left religious life, returned to Miami and embarked on a new journey.
