Etienne Charles’ Creole Soul Presented by The Rhythm Foundation x French Cultural Services

Jazz master Etienne Charles is an artist who searches for untold stories and sounds to tell via his lush trumpet sound, varied compositional textures and pulsating percussive grooves. He finds inspiration in the rhythms of Trinidad's Carnival, the magnificent brass bands, vintage calypso and soca. His Creole Soul project is his deep dive into the these pan-Caribbean interconnected musical forms. He is working with the beguine from his great-grandfather’s homeland of Martinique, creating an homage to the legendary French composer/artist Henri Salvador from French Guiana (and who Antonio Carlos Jobim credited with the genesis of Bossa nova!). His new work is finding transcendence in these inter-connected rhythms.

Fête de la Musique is the annual global day of music, originally begun in Paris, to welcome summer with free music. This program is presented by Rhythm Foundation and French Cultural Services of the Consulate General of France of Miami, in partnership with Make Music Miami, Alliance Française, France Florida Foundation for the Arts, and Villa Albertine.
