MAIACA, Miami Association of Indian Americans for Culture and the Arts, will tweak tradition with this year's annual Diwali event. The festive Indian celebration will take on a new interactive form featuring three DIY demonstrations streamed on the weekend before Diwali. Each segment will spotlight local Miami talent providing tips and lessons on how to cook, prepare and decorate your home for the holiday. Viewers are encouraged to take part and follow along with the demonstrations in their homes.
The Dreaming of Diwali event will be available via Zoom and Facebook Live on November 8th beginning at 6pm EST.
The lineup of talent for the evening event will be as follows:
First will be Chef Utpal Dighe, of Saborwala in Coral Gables, preparing two Latin/Indian fusion dishes. Chef Dighe will make his signature Samoquetas, combining samosas and croquettes along with Vegetarian Chaat Ceviche, a Peruvian ceviche dish seasoned with Chaat masala, a popular Indian spice.
Next, MAIACA Board Members, Chitra Ramakrishna, Vicky Kamlani and Sunita Bharwani, will present a home decor segment. The group will demonstrate how to arrange and display traditional Diwali decorations and provide ideas for gift giving and packaging.
Finally, South Florida Artist Indranil Ghosh will demonstrate how to design a rangoli using common household items. Ghosh will provide step by step instruction from template selection to detailed decorations.
