Museum Park onboard the Georg Stage Ship!

In this unique partnership spearheaded by Happy Copenhagen, the City of Copenhagen has coupled with World OutGames Miami to strengthen the ties between the two cities as diverse and vibrant tourist destinations. Focusing on happiness and livability, both Copenhagen and Miami are beacons of LGBTQI equality and inclusivity. The visit by the Danish training ship Georg Stage to Museum Park Miami, from Friday, May 26 - Sunday, May 28, 2017, is not to be missed. With its crew of 15 officers and 63 trainees between the ages of 17 and 23, Georg Stage is not only the world’s smallest full rigged ship, but also the oldest civilian training ship in the world – it has trained young Scandinavians for a life at sea since 1882.

Open for all and free of charge, you are invited to explore this part of Denmark’s proud nautical heritage. On-board the ship, you can experience a podcast-walk (hyperlink to landing page under ART & ARCHITECTURE Sex and the Sea) from the most recent exhibition at the Danish Maritime Museum in Elsinore. The 45-minute podcast-walk contains tales about love and intimacy, of passionate affairs and cold-hearted broads, of despondent, wistful daydreams and magic encounters: About a girl who must seek hire under the guise of being a boy, about a boy who went off to sea in the hope of learning to love women, but ended up marrying the chief mate. It is an ode to the ancient myths of sirens and mermaids and the curious seafarer.

In addition, come on board and meet the Director of the Georg Stage, who will be hosting some on-board lectures on the history of the ship and Danish Maritime history.
