Art Blues & BBQ Festival Presented by African Heritage Cultural Arts Center

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center’s 1st Annual Art Blues & BBQ Festival features the Chicago Blues All-Stars, Ike & Val Woods and the Valerie Tyson Band performing live in an outdoor concert on Saturday, December 2nd, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at 6161 NW 22nd Avenue in Miami. Tickets are free, RSVPs are encouraged.

Festival goers should bring lawn chairs, lots of friends (but no food, beverages or coolers allowed) and expect to enjoy a spectacular art exhibit by Addonis Parker inside the Amadlozi Gallery; a highly competitive BBQ grilling challenge with VIP judges and contestants that are public figures, local leaders and nonprofit organizations; engaging pre-event activities including a music workshop at a local school, and an Open Forum and JAM Session in the Wendell Narcisse Performing Arts Theater.

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, has a long-standing reputation of providing high caliber art instruction. Students, ages 5 – 16 years old, receive professional instruction in music, dance, drama, and visual arts within a creative and secure environment after school, Saturdays, spring, winter and summer breaks. Distinguished alumni of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center include Tarell Alvin McCraney, Executive Producer of Moonlight; Robert Battle, Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Bianca Brewton, a professional dancer with the production companies of Janet Jackson and Beyoncé; Shareef Clayton, a Jazz trumpeter, who studied with Arturo Sandoval and performed with Stevie Wonder; and tap dancer Marshall Davis, Jr., associate choreographer of the Tony nominated play, Shuffle Along.
